Why Dog Shivering Post-Surgery

Shivering is common as anesthesia wears off. Provide blankets and warmth until fully recovered.

Anesthesia

Dogs shiver from post-op pain. Give prescribed pain meds on schedule to keep discomfort at bay.

Pain

Anesthesia depresses body temp. Use heating pads or blankets to warm dog to normal temperature.

Body Temperature

Shivering can signal infection. Look for wound redness, swelling. Call vet if concerned.

Infection

Surgery is stressful. Comfort dog if shivering from fear. Play calming music.

Anxiety

Allow rest, but gently encourage movement. Offer water, high-calorie foods when interested.

Comfortable

Contact vet if shivering persists over 24 hours or other concerns arise. May need exam or medication.
